Showing you the way!

Acknowledging the increasing importance of work experience, the Telegraph business section has started a new series devoted to the subject...
The series involves interviews with the chief executives of four leading companies explaining how their own work experience placements played a pivotal role in their own careers. Introducing the series Telegraph writer, Richard Tyler – interviewing Sir Stuart Rose, chief executive of Marks & Spencer – focuses initially on research conducted by The b-live Foundation.
The feature states:
Securing work experience can be pivotal to a young person's ability to pick the right career path for them, research has found. Almost two-thirds of all teachers polled by think-tank The b-live Foundation, said that the strongest tangible benefits to students come from taking part in work experience.
The research referred to by Tyler focuses on finding solutions to help schools and employers work together effectively to help develop young people’s employability skills. It has also been used to inform the work of Work Inspiration – a national business-led campaign dedicated to encouraging UK employers to provide higher quality and inspirational work experience opportunities for young people.
Regarding the role of work experience, Tanja Kuveljic – managing director of The b-live Foundation – said:
“As an organisation committed to the social mobility of young people, The b-live Foundation works with leading employers who provide inspirational work experience opportunities to young people as part of our schools Employability Programme. Good quality work experience is key to helping young people make inspired and informed career decisions, build confidence and develop employability skills while benefiting society and businesses alike too.”
